Visiting on a Monday? The Fort of San Diego is closed on Mondays, according to INAH. Swap it for a walk around the Zócalo and the waterfront. Palma Sola is also closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Remember that Monday to Thursday, Dinka’s first boat leaves at 11:00 am.

What you’ll see on each stop

Fort of San Diego

Built in 1616 and rebuilt as a five-pointed star after the 1776 earthquake, it’s the most important maritime fortress on Mexico’s Pacific coast. It protected the Manila Galleon trade, which linked Acapulco and Asia from 1565 to 1815. Since 1986 it has housed the Acapulco History Museum (INAH, The Met). Full guide: Fort of San Diego and Parque de la Reina.

The glass-bottom boat and Roqueta Island

In about an hour you’ll see the bronze Virgin of Guadalupe, submerged since 1958 next to La Yerbabuena islet. You’ll also see the homes of Hollywood-era stars, a live high dive and fish through the glass. Roqueta Island is protected by the Mexican Navy, has around 713 recorded species and a lighthouse 115 m above the sea (Wikipedia, ES). More in our Roqueta Island guide.

La Quebrada cliff divers

Divers have jumped here since 1934, from a ledge about 35 m (115 ft) high into a channel only 4 m deep. Shows run at 1:00 pm, 7:00, 8:00, 9:00 (with a bonfire) and 10:00 pm (with torches) (official site, TV Azteca Guerrero).

Variations for your trip

With kids

Take the 10:00 am boat (Friday to Sunday) or the 11:00 am one, then stay on Roqueta’s main beach, where the waves are very gentle. See La Quebrada at 1:00 pm instead of the night show. Kids aged 0–3 ride the Traditional Tour free (up to 2 per paying passenger).

With more adventure

Swap the Traditional Tour for the Traditional + Snorkel ($400 MXN online, about 1 h 50 min including 45 min of snorkeling). The minimum age is 7, you don’t need to know how to swim, and the last snorkel departure is at 2:00 pm. See Roqueta Island snorkeling.

As a couple

Take an early boat, hike up to the Roqueta lighthouse, have lunch by the sea and catch the sunset at Pie de la Cuesta (don’t swim there; the open-sea waves are strong). Finish with La Quebrada’s 10:00 pm torch show.

From a cruise ship

Dinka’s dock is right next to the cruise terminal, and boats leave every hour. Plan around your all-aboard time and be back at the dock 30–45 minutes before it. Read our Acapulco shore excursions guide.

On a budget

Fort ($155 for foreign visitors) + boat online ($210) + La Quebrada ($100) = $465 MXN per adult, plus food. Mexican nationals pay $85 at the Fort, so $395.

Why stay in traditional Acapulco for a single day?

  • Everything is within about 3 km: the Fort, the dock, the Zócalo, La Quebrada and Caleta beach (CruiseMapper).
  • One parking lot: leave the car at Parque de la Reina for $50 MXN all day.
  • The icons are here: Roqueta Island, the submerged Virgin and the cliff divers.
  • Less traffic than crossing to the Diamante zone.

Tips to make the most of the day

  1. Book the boat online to skip the line and save up to 33%.
  2. Arrive 20 minutes before your departure.
  3. Wear your swimsuit and bring a change of clothes.
  4. Carry cash in pesos for the island and taxis.
  5. Bring your own snacks and drinks: they’re allowed on board at no cost, in a personal-size cooler.
  6. Check the weather: if there’s a strong swell and the Port Authority closes the port, you reschedule at no cost.

Plan B: if it rains or the port closes

Sometimes the Port Authority (Capitanía de Puerto) suspends navigation because of swells or bad weather. If that happens:

  • Your Dinka ticket isn’t lost. You reschedule for another time or date at no cost, and the ticket never expires (terms).
  • Switch the order of your day. Do the Fort and the Zócalo first, and check WhatsApp to see if the port reopens later.
  • La Quebrada usually keeps running its shows; confirm on site.
  • The Acapulco Botanical Garden is a good land option: 6 hectares of tropical forest, open daily from dawn to dusk, $100 MXN, free on Tuesdays (Jardín Botánico).
